Profile

I love producing! I find the people fascinating, the process completely absorbing and the fact that every day is different makes it endlessly interesting.  I stumbled into advertising as a 20-year-old because I wanted to travel, but quickly fell head over heels with the five million nuances of producing. It turned out to be the perfect thing for someone like me who is half creative/half business. I relish the negotiations, but I’m addicted to the creative part of it. A beautiful color correction can leave me floating for the rest of the day.

Experience

Freelance Producer, Dallas, TX 2010-2015 and 2017-Present
Happy clients included Fiat, GameStop, Tire Rack, Nature Sweet Tomatoes and Luzianne Tea, among others. Some had big budgets, tiny budgets, tight deadlines, weather problems, celebrity egos, animation or live action - it doesn’t matter. Every production has issues, and I’ve learned a million ways to solve those issues to turn out spots that work.

Director of Broadcast, The Marketing Arm, Dallas, TX  2015-2017 I was brought on board to teach broadcast production to 200 agency production, creative and account staff that were new to the process, while producing content and TV campaigns for Quaker Oats, Cheetos, Lay’s, Doritos, Tostitos, AT&T & Grey Goose.

Producer of Ice Cream Stores, Northport, NY 2000 - 2010
I took a break in my advertising career to create a small chain of homemade ice cream stores in New York and North Carolina. Lots of similarities to producing commercials - budgeting, scheduling, negotiation, project management, logo design, art direction, team building. The lessons learned from grass roots marketing were  invaluable. It eventually led me back to my first love of advertising.

Senior Producer, The Richards Group, Dallas, TX 1992 - 2000
This is where I learned the benefits of lean, mean, fast-paced yet super-high-quality production. My projects ranged from multi-million dollar special effects Superbowl spots for Taco Bell to celebrity campaigns for TGI Friday’s to goofy comedy for 7-Eleven. Along with mentoring numerous junior producers and creatives, I recorded symphonies in London for Continental Airlines, produced the first TV commercial ever shot in Papua New Guinea and was named Shoot Magazine’s Southwest Producer of the Year during this time. I also successfully negotiated Robert Redford into being the voice of Porsche for a new business pitch, in spite of the fact that he “doesn’t do commercials”. Never say never. Anything is possible.

Senior Producer, TracyLocke, Dallas, TX 1988 - 1992
Big budgets/big productions was the theme of my time at TracyLocke, on clients such as Frito-Lay, Pepsi, Borden Dairy and Embassy Suites Hotels.

Producer, Berry Brown, Dallas, TX 1984 - 1987
Tight budgets/tight timelines defined my stint at Berry Brown. I was the only producer, so clients like Dairy Queen, Daisy Brand Sour Cream and Quaker Oats kept me very busy and provided valuable experience.

Producer, Temerlin McClain, Dallas, TX 1980 - 1984 This was my introduction to the wonderful world of advertising. I learned the basics of producing on a wide variety of clients like Lone Star Beer, Greyhound, a dozen different banks and lots of food products. Also did a ton of American Airlines spots.
